ESTABLISHING A YOUTH LIFE LEARNING CENTER IN YOUR CITY
We frequently receive invitations to establish Youth Life Learning Centers in other cities. While expanding the number of children, families, and communities is a part of our organizational mission, strategically we have to focus on proposals that represent the best prospects for broad-based support among church, community, and business leaders. Strong support from the beginning leads to the development of a sustainable city organization. This approach produces the most efficient and effective use of donor contributions and Youth Life staff time. Below are the ingredients for a successful Youth Life Learning Center initiative in your city:
A. Community Assessment: Though a Youth Life Learning Center would be a great blessing to any community, we are dedicated to focusing on places where there is the greatest need. Those places are usually characterized by challenged neighborhoods, failing schools, and at-risk kids. The first step is pulling together an assessment of community need in order to substantiate the case for a YLLC. Much of this data already exists. Our objective is to compliment and coordinate with other service agencies.
B. Community Support: The second step is to form an exploratory committee with representatives from the city, businesses, and churches. Three primary goals are: i) to tentatively secure an appropriate facility in walking distance of the neighborhood to be served. There are often city facilities that can be converted to a Youth Life Learning Center.ii) to secure commitment for financial support. Typically it requires a combination of startup funds and ongoing support for the first three years, enabling the city organization to establish itself in the community; and iii) to identify from that exploratory committee or from others in the community, a core group of advisory board members.
C. Youth Life Foundation of TN Support: Life Foundation will support qualified initiatives through training administrative and program staff in all processes and procedures of the program. Money raised in your community is designated for that community. There is no franchising fee. Actual cost of Youth LIfe Foundation of Tennessee staff travel, training, and initial oversight will have to reimbursed. The primary for use of the “Youth Life” name or any other identification with Youth Life Foundation of Tennessee is based on faithful adherence to the standards of the the Youth Life program, mission, statement of faith, and administrative integrity.
